your making the assumption that all tree farms sit around unplanted and unready to be collected and that a player has to first go in plant and wait to gather. which is silly.
this tree farm is fancy tho not usefull it takes lots of time and i got one with aqua, we have to hire people for the job to plant trees its boring job. I rather have a normal tree farm
You're assuming that I'm assuming that all tree farms are empty. The point is, is it doesn't matter if this one starts empty or not. No matter who uses it, whether they replant or not, it's still wood... on... demand. Haha. Anyway, I think you're farm is great. Having a massive farm like that definitely has it's benefits, I'm sure. This is jut a different creative option.
Now I have made one that makes about 11-14 stacks on a full load, this load takes about 7 minutes to grow (about 2 stacks a minute [I am kinda guessin on the output, I'll define it later] which is pretty good), the sapling rate is only about 3/4 so I slowly use up saplings... I did a generator instead of making a giant farm because it is more compact (like 35 by 25) and it works for its purpose, to create wood is a efficient way.
there is one type of tree farm where it automatically plants itself, all you have to do is keep right clicking on one spot and it will feed it into the right location.(it uses a glitch though.)
and then you realise mine and unwise small plan that i hatched in the flat land beats you all with 192 sapplings + 192 bonemeal + SP = win here is a pic of the farm in the world edit - i usually get about 32 extra sapplings per use and i got 45 apples from one harvest as i dont particularly care about going through all the leaves with SP it is generally easy Bonemeal is easy to collect also with a decent skele spawner
the point of this whole thing was to tell which produces the most at any given time. As tree farms are always replanted and ready for the next time you need them it is only natural that when judging a tree farm it be full. Does he always fully stock his machine and leave it stocked before leaving to do other things? to make that kind of assumption shows a lack of understanding. To try and handicap a tree farm so you can have the advantage is a dishonest way to go about it. If i followed your train of logic... Since an unplanted tree farm is a incomplete farm it would only be reasonable and fair that if a person were asked to start with an incomplete farm that the opposition should start with an incomplete machine. Seeing how as the actual trees are somewhere around 50% of the total farm, the machine would need to be broken in half and then we can start. See the error in that logic?
There are 2 perspectives meeting in this thread. Machine vs Farm. 1: The Treefarm The whole reason why people have tree farms is to have a batch of trees ready to cut down when needed and then they replant and lets time regrow the trees for the next time they need Logs. 2: The Machine The point is the machine is to produce a lot of logs from saplings that you have in your chest , In other words The machine is ready for use at any time. 3: The contest: If there is going to be a fair contest in this we have to think of a few things: Both the Tree farm and the Log machine will have to start in the state they are ment to start in. (The machine empty and the farm full) If there is going to be a contest about the start up Both parts will have to start from scratch with only some tools. How long does it take to build the farm compared to the machine (You will have gather the mats too including the bonemeal) The question is about the skeleton spawner to get the bonemeal should building it be part of the contest? Reason for Yes The tree farm does not depend on Bonemeal (But it can be used) Reason for NO On a map of some age there is always a skeleton spawner farm that can be used. So here is my Idea for a contest if you wish to hold one: All contestants start with their bare hands + a skeleton spawner in a fresh 75*75 region The contest runs for x number of hours and the person to produce most logs by that time wins. The minimum time for the contest should be 3 hours No going to any market to get supplies. Perks such as /fly /jump and // should not be used to be fair to all people who wish to join such a event. Another idea is to hold the event over 1 Week with teams of 3 players amd see what team can produce the most number of logs during that time P.S. There will never be a completely fair contest of this type A farm has to be kept and be taken care of and for the machine you really need the bonemeal. How ever this contest should give some idea what is better in the short/long run. To end the this post: Minecraft is a game. We all play it to have fun and not make a byte factory. We dont depend on minecraft to make a living , but it sure can make living a bit more fun.
I love the idea Dzy, but building a wood generator takes more time (relative to material finding) to build, if you find a relatively flat area for a tree farm. You have to mine iron, find some slime, get the rs for the machine, gather bonemeal. While on the other hand for a tree farm all you would have to do (if you don't have to mine out a mountain) just flatten the area a bit put dirt every two blocks and plant until full (once you get the saplings), maybe make a next level or two, and mine out some coal to make torches for mobs to not spawn. I would love to try it personally against exav because I am always up for challenge , so if you are up for it exavious....
