(Original detailed thread: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=534951) Quite a few rumors going on about the new Xbox requiring an online connection 24/7, with Microsoft's creative director Adam Orth fully supporting the idea of all devices being "always on". I was looking forward to buying the new Xbox, but if it's going to require an internet connection 100% of the time I might just consider getting the PS4. Thoughts? Would you buy it if they kept it the way it is?
Sticking with PlayStation, as I have since the PlayStation 1. No need to switch to Xbox, I think Xbox is starting to go down hill and I don't want any part of Xbox. Not going to start a console war, but in my opinion the way Xbox has been going down hill lately, with rumors of the next generation systems, I will be sticking with PlayStation. If Microsoft were to require a "always on" internet connection, they will lose many many users and customers. Such as, some people do not play online or they do not have internet, so someone with no internet could not play the next gen. Xbox in their home. I personally do not think Microsoft will go forward with this, but if they do, it will hurt them greatly.
You may have heard about some ignorant statements made by Adam Orthy on twitter... I was kinda exited about the new Xbox til I read em... Id go with PS4
I am exited about this, now shity annoying kids won't be able to get on cuz their sisters will be using facebook I actually LIKE the always on, not a hardcore gamer, my internet connection is decent, and I just play for like 2 hours and less. AND I like halo, halo is on xbox, the end
Read that link above, that orthy guys a retard. Anyway. In order for me to buy the new Xbox it will have to have the option/ability to play in offline mode, that is not negotiable. Sometimes I take my console to LAN parties and I need to be able to play without an internet connection. Also some people live in remote areas that do not have great internet connections and this is sort of a slap in the face to them as if they don't even matter. It would be quite disappointing if they did go with a mandatory always online to function.
I also heard that there may be a new feature so u can't use the same game on diffrent consoles. Aka once u buy and play the game only your console will be able to play that disk.
yeah but atm they are only Rumors, nothing has been confirmed by Microsoft. I will wait for them to say YES or NO.
Yes, most people do have internet, but there are a few that do not, and just like playing offline. If you cant play a game at all unless you have internet, its going to hurt them. And just think, what happens when you don't pay your internet bill? Well, no Xbox. Or you wanna bring your Xbox somewhere that doesn't have internet...
I also herd that, and it was rumored for the PS4 as well, but they confirmed that it wasn't the case. Sony will have a big advantage if the next gen. Xbox requires a always on connection AND can not play used games.
I have had a xbox for over a year now. I honestly hate xbox live (no offence) it will have the worst connection at times but I enjoy it when it does work plus all my friends are getting the xbox 720.
nah, you pay for security and xbox live does not suck, maybe you connection does mndude. I can't play ps3 online, connection there DOES suck come at me haters.
The new Xbox hasn't even been announced yet, has it? How can you guys come to these conclusions that are just based on rumors? I don't care much for Xbox considering I am more of a Playstation guy but don't let these rumors take you. There will more than likely be an offline mode with limited features to play some aspects of the game, as Microsoft really isn't that stupid and will more than likely listen to the community and make modifications and flexibility an option to the user-base.
You know, I've had nothing but positive experience regarding XBox live. Its fast, user friendly and consistently updated and upgraded to provide a better experience. And as to paying for it... its really cheap, especially if you wait for the specials they have from time to time where it can get as much as 50% off. I mean... most kids now days spend more than that just on a soda(s)/energy drinks everyday. And if you want to try and say how PS3's -free- version is better... ask all those people who had their credit card info stolen from it. Not hating on PS, just stating a fact.
I dont like this switch. My internet is good in every other room in my house but my own. I currently cant play xbox live but i can still play xbox. I will buy a ps4 if this is true.
/me gets his xbox online-banned for using pirated games No more games for me, if a internet connection is needed to play them.
