This is a really good idea, I'll try downgrading. For the cable, did you mean like an ethernet cable?
I tried downgrading, and when opening the world to LAN, it's still not showing up for some reason. Very frustrating as nothing has changed between now and when Dettles and I have played LAN. Except that I've opened the ports and allowed minecraft and java to bypass firewall, but that should only help, not hurt. gahrbles!
Are your computers connected to your network? If both are use the PC (only know PC...), open Network and look if you can find the other computer... Easiest way to know if you are connected IMO... But I'm a freaking failure at computers...
Well, you would use a Cat 5 or Cat 5e crossover cable. Its the same type of cable that you would use when connecting to a router only its different in that the crossover cable connects the transmission pins from one end to the receive pins on the other end (crosses them over, hence the name). Whereas normal Cat 5 Ethernet cables are a 1-to-1 mapping of pins from one connector to another. You can easily turn a regular cat 5 cable into crossover by choping off one end and replacing it with the pin layout for crossover, which can be found easily via google. Assuming you have the materials to make a new end, if not they can be cheaply purchased.
I'll have to read into it more when I get home from work as i have about no clue what any of that means lol, but the crossover is plugged from one computer to another and that allows both computers to work in one network? Im kinda guessing here because i never used ethernet cable before. Only had wifi.
I've come to the conclusion that the crossover connects two computers and is somehow able to create a type of LAN availability. How would minecraft work that way?
How do you think they connected computers together before wireless technology hehehe By connecting two computers together via a crossover cable you allow those two computers to communicate with each other, thus "networking" them. Using a crossover cable just makes a single small local area network (LAN) containing those two computers. Minecraft works the same as if you were on any other larger LAN network. You can also use normal cat 5 Ethernet cable and a router to connect your computer and other computers together, same concept. Its just that a crossover cable removes the need of a router between two computers. If you have a router and the Ethernet cable you can just forget the crossover cable and wire both to the router. I just suggested a crossover because its very base and simple and would be a sure way to get a LAN game going without having to mess with a bunch of junk like your having issues with
oh haha, I know about ethernet cables being used before wireless I just didn't know how it would work with two laptops. The crossover seems like it might be the way to go as I cannot for the life of me figure out the problem. Tutorial after tutorial after 10 page reading. The cables really aren't that expensive so until the router issue is figured out, we can use that. Thanks for the suggestion man!
Change the name? and yeah we've been doing a let's play and sticking it on youtube. It might be okay to play with the steve skin but for some reason, it just feels...wrong xP
