I can understand why schools block porn sites and other home pages that are highly inapropriate even for adults. How ever there are sites being blocked for no other reason than it being a delicate issue in the adult world that the children are going to grow up into anyways. There is also the issue of the language barrier. In many cases software like this is aimed at the North American market with word filtering to see if a site is ok or not Here are 2 words in everyday swedish that could trigger such a blockage. All movies in Swedish have a "slut" : It means end / the end Or did you ever go to the store to buy a six-pack of beer/soda. Well in Swedish the number 6 is spelled "sex" and said the same way. Another example: This is a funny one (I wish i could find the source) There were a few guys who were good at making fonts and their fonts were popular until people discovered what the names of the fonts really meant. The guys had been naming the fonts with obscene words in their own language that did not mean anything in English.
Nothing is blocked at my school, we even have minecraft lmao, but i'm not sad enough when i could be socialising but we do have facebook as well, even explicit sites for which ever taste you fancy....
My school has blocks but not that strict, they mostly block YouTube, inappropriate sites, etc. But we can access FB, Minecraft, and general internet. What most students come across is that if we type in a word, like what Dzyriq mentioned, they trigger the block systems. One word always stumped some of my teachers; Assignments, pretty harmless right? So why block it? Because the there is an ass in Assignments. In some ways the system works and keeps the peace, but like any system, it still has its flaws.
The school I attend uses a filter called Lightspeed, it blocks nearly every site that is not categorized as education. But my case is similiar - I can somehow fully use this site. Any other forum or game-related site on the internet is blocked, but this one remains untouched.. Dunno why.
I just went to IE *shudder* and internet options and used a proxy. course that was over 6 years ago....
My school HAS minecraft and a lot of stuff but reddit and happy wheels are blocked, everything else is fine.
Don't give me any credit or anything. Anyway, I now work for my IT staff, fixed two problems for them in the last week before school starts. Btw Bray, 'hack list'? Believe me the IT staff have bigger fish to fry. On topic, don't bother trying to get past the blocking system, you WILL end up getting caught, if you honestly don't care then there are many options for you to use. Always remember, Google is your friend.
offtopic: spy! Spoiler (Move your mouse to the spoiler area to reveal the content) Show Spoiler Hide Spoiler I could access almost every site on my old school, even sites like facebook -- putting httpS fixed it xP My school starts in 6 days (fuu), i hope their filter is bad ;3
