History of Cryinia, Volume One: Foundation

The world of Cryinia has a long and storied history, consisting of chaos and worry, destruction and malice, and finally, success. Cryinia began in the middle of September in the year 2011, and ended on July 31st in 2012. Regarding the origin of the name 'Cryinia', I can only speculate; though I suspect it has something to do with all the 'whining and crying' committed by the server's vocal population following the end of the previous world, BR3. The clamor mostly due to disappointment regarding the Exodus.

The Exodus was intended as a way to transition between BR3 and the world that became Cryinia. The server staff organized it to allow every individual on the server to bring two doublechests of goods; anything they wanted to bring along.Unfortunately, this plan failed as map corruption of some sort prevented the transfer of newspawn into Cryinia. Whether this is true or if there was some conspiracy behind the sudden failure of the Exodus, we shall never know. As a result, everyone quickly had to adjust to the reality that nothing from the old world could be saved; the world would start fresh. Thus the whining and 'Crying'.

So as can be expected with any fresh start, Cryinia's fresh start was fairly chaotic, though it was executed without any serious issues. There were several differences between the Cryinian
policy and BR3 policy, however, the most notable being land reform. In BR3, individuals were allowed to region as much land as they wished; up to a reasonable limit. It was usually determined at the discretion of the staff member involved.

The new land policy in Cryinia was to allow each individual player to claim only a 75x75 block area of land, considerably smaller than previously allowed, but cozy and usable. However, the immediate effect of this policy was to make the foundation of towns and cities impossible, at least until the policy was adjusted to account for their creation. However, taking into consideration the fact that towns and cities in BR3 rose quickly and stagnated just as fast, one can understand why Cryinian policy was the way it was.

So, as expected, Cryinia started developing slowly. The land restrictions worked exactly as intended, leading to far less overall waste of good land.Everyone quickly began snapping up their 75x75 allotments of land, dotting the landscape with lean, pragmatic homesteads, while avoiding the worst excesses of the previous world. The only problem that remained was transportation. The previous world, BR3, knew nothing of transportation problems. Transportation was served in three effective ways in the old world; Warps (Freely available to all, although staff members were needed to set them," Portals (which anyone could set up for a reasonable fee,) and minecart rails, which saw extensive use. Amazingly, BR3's railways were largely built by private interests - ordinary players instead of the server staff. The staff provided a public subway at the Spawn, but the rails themselves were privately built and maintained.

The new transportation policy for Cryinia immediately banned the usage or development of warps. They would never come to be used by the public, though rumors exist that perhaps a secret warp network, useable by persons unknown, once existed in Cryinia. Portals (Stargates) would eventually come to be developed in Cryinia, but only after the introduction of Travellers. Much like today, the construction of stargates was left to this small group of elite explorers. Stargates would only achieve wide scale use about halfway into Cryinia's timespan, when the number of portals finally began to exceed the number used in the previous world, BR3. Until perhaps the Late Period of Cryinia, the new world could not hope to match the transportation system of the world of BR3.

Although Cryinia's foundation was far from perfect, the builder population quickly became used to the changes made, and Cryinian civilization would quickly begin to rise beyond even the heights of the last civilization in BR3. Cryinia was fertile for expansion, literally and practically.

History of Cryinia, Volume Two: Expansion

Cryinia remained at its original size of 5000x5000 blocks until November 2011, when it was expanded to 10000x10000. This expansion finally granted builders access to several outlying seas which had previously been unreachable or undiscovered. The expansion had been anticipated by everyone, as the server staff had promised that everyone would be able to receive an additional 75x75 plot.

Thus, the expansion was immediately followed by a land rush, particularly to the North and East, where the continents of Cryinia continued, leading settlers to rich valleys and fertile plains. This was crucial to finally allowing the development of towns and cities; the old land area was simply too small and too densely packed with individual homesteads to allow a town of reasonable size to be built in it.

With this first expansion in place, the now legendary towns and cities of Cryinia were founded in rapid succession. Attention quickly turned towards gathering resources for these many new towns and cities. Spelunking became very popular, as it was easy to visit newly discovered caves, caverns, and abandoned mines, and strip them of their easy ores. X-Raying, although illegal, also saw a huge surge in use, as the price of many ores shot upin price very quickly at the expansion, making the temptation to cheat to easy wealth too great for some. Demand for diamonds, iron, and lapis reached an all-time high at the onset of the first expansion, leading to the high prices.

It was also at thistime that a new property law took effect. The law declared that anyone who wanted to claim a plot of land, of any size, would be required to build a wall clearly demarcating the borders of the region. This was intended to avoid the overlapping of regions, and the grief and confusion that tended to follow such a mistake.

The server spawn also received a much needed upgrade around this time. The original wood-faced buildings were torn down, proper streets and street lights were put in, and the old jail,an iron-bar lined cage, was replaced with a dedicated prison down the street. It is rumored that several prisoners managed to escape during the transfer from the jail cage to the prison building.

The server's financial system was also overhauled, and gold ingots became the official currency of Cryinia. They had been in use before, but since no great amount of gold existed, the usage of gold ingots as a medium of exchange was limited. This changed, however, with the massive gold find in the frozen northern plains of Cryinia. The server staff bought control of the area cheaply and used the proceeds to found the First Bank of Cryinia, which from then on would hold huge gold reserves. The bank then issued gold exchange notes, which were valued at a 1:1 ratio with gold.

This, of course, led to a flooding of gold into the economy, which suddenly allowed for easy crafting of gold-based products such as clocks, powered rails, and gold blocks. The ability to upvote the server for 30 gold ingots a day also added to the growing gold supply. Despite this, however, such gold products did not flood in; clocks were largely for personal use, powered rails needed standard rails to actually be useful, and gold blocks were still relatively expensive to use in large scale. Gold was obviously a very useful medium of exchange, but it was nearly useless as a trade good.

And of course, there was a second map expansion, which took place in March 2012, bringing the size of Cryinia up to 20000x20000 blocks in size. Interestingly, this expansion was overwhelmingly an ocean expansion; while some modest continents and large islands were opened up, early settlers of the second expansion quickly realized that they would need to set sail before they could reach any new land.Although the latest expansion added less land than the previous expansion, it did add lots of new ore deposits that were desperately needed following the rapid expansion of towns and cities in Cryinia. Jungle biomes were at last added to the world of Cryinia, bringing Ocelets, for Creeper management, and Jungle Trees, which held significantly larger quantities of wood than normal trees and were thus much more useful for wood production. The second expansion was a much needed boost to Cryinia's post-city economy.

The second expansion would prove to be crucial in both the expansion of existing cities and the development of newer ones. Although most town and city development was occuring in the heartlands of Cryinia, their rapid expansion owed much to the resources opened up by the second map expansion.

History of Cryinia, Volume Three: Rise of the Cities

With the world of Cryinia now wide-open for development, several builders took it upon themselves the ultimate task of civilization; the construction of towns and cities. Towns and cities previously existed in great numbers in the old world, BR3, so much so that the server staff had taken up the task of limiting such careless and freewheeling development in Cryinia. Towns in BR3 were quite often abandoned just as fast as they were founded, often left to their owners to live entirely alone.

The server staff wished to avoid a similar situation with the new world of Cryinia, and so enacted a new policy. This new policy was to require payment for the town or city's designated region, as well as requiring pre-approval of town rules. Prices ranged from 300 gold ingots for a small 150x150 town plot, to 4800 gold for a huge 600x600 town plot. Most towns were of the modest 150x150 size, owing to the largely unaffordable price of anything significantly larger.

Town rules and their legality in the wider server was also a new focus of the server's public policy. Town rules in BR3 were often either non-existent, chaotic, inconsistent, contradictory, and most of all, unenforceable. The new policy set out to change that; town rules approved by the staff in Cryinia were given the force of law within their respective territories. However, punishment earned from the breaking of these town rules most often led to expulsion rather than a jail sentence or a ban. Even so, relatively few mayors ever exercised their new authority to banish law-breaking citizens.

The rise of Cryinian civilization, led by the development of new towns and cities also had a side effect; Cryinia's first literary revolution. Books could be written for the first time; a new cultivar of Sugarcane was discovered soon after the development of Craftopia. This new type of sugarcane produced paper that was durable enough to be written on for the first time.

Of course, there had always been a writing system available in the world of BR3; butit was limited to rigid and heavy wooden signs that could be easily painted on or carved in to. The weight of wood and difficulty of writing onto it ensured that only short phrases and names could be written onto the signs.

Books as we would recognize them today would not come into existence until after the founding of New Tinseltown. It was there, in the swamps north of town, that the magical element 'bwurmium' was discovered. Bwurmium was collected from the swamp water and distilled to act as ink. Bwurmium ink had special properties that made it far easier to produce books; such books could be made to duplicate themselves at will! Unfortunately, when the world of Cryinia was destroyed, access to bwurmium in the swamps of New Tinseltown was lost, and the easily writable cultivar of sugarcane from Craftopia was as well. The Althean variety of sugarcane cannot be compared to the variety discovered in Craftopia; as such we must add cow's leather to our 'modern' books in order to strengthen them.

The Towns and Cities of Cryinia

As written records regarding many of the towns and cities have been lost, I can only hope to impart upon you a small sampling of knowledge regarding the towns and cities of Cryinia. Fortunately, due to the diligent work of the librarians and archivists who worked at the Grand Library of Paradise Plains, I am still able to tell you quite a lot about the old world.
    -Davidthemerc

    Paradise Plains

Paradise Plains was the only one to have had the full 600x600 town size, and was thus Cryinia's only proper "city". It was founded by Globster8, and later administrated by JesseLandrum. Records regarding this city are particularly detailed, complete, and excellent because of the city's wise decision to support construction of the Grand Library of Paradise Plains. The library was founded and constructed primarily by a group of builders, scholars, and writers from New Tinseltown, who sought to establish good relations with the significantly powerful and influential citizens of Paradise Plains.

At the height of its existence, the Grand Library of Paradise Plains boasted a collection of over 100 books from throughout Cryinia. The library's collection included novels, epics, scholarly works, newspapers, various written records, journals of explorers, and even religious texts. Most of the library's collection survived the calamities that plagued Cryinian civilization at its end, and now act as our primary sources of knowledge of life in the Cryinian age.

Paradise Plains was largely divided into its iconic glowstone bordered 16x16 plots, which could be purchased by Veterans and higher for 80 gold ingots. This price was higher than similarly sized plots sold elsewhere in Cryinia, but the premium guaranteed access to the city's vast farm and monster spawning traps. The city also held a huge number of livestock, which could be used by any citizen. Even so, only about 30% of the city's 600x600 plot was ever actually developed and used. 25% or so comprised part of the shallow Paradise Sea, and the rest was divided between pristine forests, hills, and a sand-deprived desert.

Nevertheless, Paradise Plains was still the largest city in Cryinia by far, despite not using the full potential of its plot. The decision to only allow Veteran builders the ability to purchase land and become citizens of the city was a wise one. Only people who had spent at least three months previously in the world of Cryinia could become Veterans, thus restricting citizenship of Paradise Plains to those that were dedicated, mature, and law-abiding. As a result, all existing written records of the city indicate that no griefing ever took place there. This is a fitting testament to such a magnificent and wisely managed city.

    Sengia

The town of Sengia is one of Blackreaver's several historical towns, having existed previously on BR3. Cryinian Sengia varied from its BR3 counterpart in that it was a town of strictly controlled and organized 8x8 plots rather than the more open and sprawling areas of its predecessor. Cryinian Sengia thus had a much more geometric feel to it, as if it was a monument to mathematics. Cryinian Sengian was, however, considerably more populated, owing to the far denser population that its small plots enabled. At its height, this Sengia would have had a population of over 100 builders, although some of these plots likely were used as secondary or vacation homes. Information regarding Sengia's original founders and settlers is sketchy at best, largely due to the town's distance from Paradise Plains. What we know of it now is drawn mostly from the journals of explorers from New Tinseltown and beyond.

    Craftopia

Craftopia was one of the first towns to be founded after the world's first expansion. It was located in Western Cryinia, in a desert near the coast. Patttrick12 discovered the site and apparently immediately decided to build a town upon it. A port built in the western district of the city provided easy access to the rest of the world. Craftopia was also isolated, by land, from other cities, but its connections by sea to New Tinseltown and Paradise Plains have kept it out of obscurity. The city was known for its wide, wood-lined stone roads, which made travel fairly easy. However, both the city's connection by sea and its easy going roads made it a common destination for griefers; according to surviving records, Craftopia was fairly often a target of griefing and theft.

Additionally, as many of the town's buildings were built from wood imported cheaply from the east, fires of all causes, accidental and intentional, were common. Much later in Cryinia's history,a bridge was built over the nearby Bay of Frontier, linking Craftopia with New Tinseltown. The founders of the later city traveled through Craftopia on their journey, taking the canal that was built to Craftopia's west...

    New Tinseltown

New Tinseltown was founded on a modest 150x150 plot owned by PsPmax55. Like Sengia, there have been Tinseltowns in the past, the earliest, Ancient Tinseltown, in BR2, and the second earliest, Classical Tinseltown in BR3.PsPmax55 was the First Citizen of Tinseltown, an honorary designation given to him by the government of that city. He had previously lived just east of Shantytown, in the south of BR2, but later moved north to Classical Tinseltown. When that town fell with the rest of the world of BR3, PsP fled with other citizens to Cryinia, where he founded New Tinseltown. He oversaw the creation of the first and only such instance of a town constitution; one that specifically defined the laws of the city, the duties and freedoms of its citizens, as well as many of the hard facts that we now know of that city.

The city was unique amongst other cities in Cryinia in that it granted official citizenship to Wolves. Wolves are seen as pets in Althea; they may perhaps be seen by the masses as loyal companions, but they are not seen as equals worthy of citizenship. Religion also weighed heavily in New Tinseltown; the Church of Zeus was founded in that city, where it was most influential. The Church of Zeus has survived into the modern day, largely thanks to the success of New Tinseltown, Paradise Plains, and those that sought to spread the light of Zeus. Indeed, Tinsel Publications itself is connected to the modern Church.

Of all of New Tinseltown's buildings, one stands out in particular; the nearly 200 meter high Tinsel Tower. Tinsel Towers have always existed where Tinseltowns have, but this tower was by far the largest of them all. The previous Tinsel Tower, in Classical Tinseltown, measured a measly 57 meters!

    Trollsylvania

Trollsylvania was founded much later in the Cryinian Age than any of the towns in this book, yet it had no lack of citizens. According to the letters and journals of visitors, the city was founded by three brothers who sought to build their city as a monument to Cryinian civilization. Free plots of 41x41 size were available to anyone who could build grand and visually pleasing structures. The city was built on the westernmost temperate land available, and extended to the sea.One letter notes that the city had a restaurant capable of producing meals for its patron within minutes of them having been ordered. The building itself was said to be adorned with 'golden arches', apparently a testament to the restaurant owner's wealth. The entrance to the city was also decorated lavishly; a large face, said to be that of the town's patron god, 'Troll', was placed upon the eastern wall, through which, all visitors entered. Little else of Trollsylvania is known or understood.

    Snowrush

Snowrush was founded by Kenny5555, who built the city very late in the Cryinian Age, perhaps only a few months before the world's end.

Snowrush was built in the furthest frontier of the world; the southeast ice plains that few had traversed, and until the city's founding, none had built upon. The town was small and modestly developed, but had its own bank, subway, and road leading out deeper into the frontier. Amongst the homes that popped up on that road, a new Temple of Zeus was constructed, as well as a military base operated by the government of New Tinsel under PsPmax55. Only wolves inhabited this base, owing to the freezing cold of that distant land. Later, there would even yet another town in the frozen wastes...

    Nachosquid

Nachosquid was supposedly founded by two builders, one perhaps being 'Nacho', and the other being 'Squid' though it cannot be said for certain. The town held a small group of Wolves from New Tinseltown, for its own protection. It was connected by road and subway to Snowrush, and the Tinsel Military Base was only a short walk away. An attack by Flibet of Cryaphor prompted the town mayors to beg for Tinsel Wolves to protect them. The Cryinian Age was coming to an end.............

History of Cryinia, Volume Four: Downfall

Flibet of Cryaphor disappeared from the frozen plains of Cryinia's frontier just as quickly as he had appeared; a rapid deployment of 54 Tinsel Wolves to Nachosquid was apparently enough to stop him. Once the town and its citizens were secure from this danger, they immediately constructed a permanent base for these wolves, so that they could be stationed in the town itself.

Flibet's exact origins were obscured even in the past; archeologists from New Tinsel and Paradise Plains were able to quickly locate a pyramid located far out in the ocean that they believed was his. This pyramid was built entirely out of sandstone, and was secure from entry through what appeared to be its front door, though the bold exploration team was able to dig an undersea tunnel into the pyramid from a nearby tiny island. Unfortunately, little could be learned from this pyramid, as all the writings on the walls and on stone tablets strewn throughout were completely undecipherable; they were written in a language completely unknown to anyone.

Less than a week after Flibet's attack on Nachosquid, he attacked again, this time though, his target was Sengia. The assault upon Sengia took place late at night, and with total surprise, as Sengians had no contact with the people of Nachosquid. Flibet supposedly made fireballs and lightning bolts rain from the sky, awakening much of the populace, and sending most of them running out of town in panic. A few brave warriors stood their ground upon his initial attack to protect the city, but he reportedly simply annihilated them on the spot, as he despised such bravery.

By now, the sudden and violent events befalling Cryinia drew the attention of the Guardians, who were sworn to protect the world and its citizens. The Guardians convened a public meeting in the central province, Spawn, a meeting that drew hundreds of frightened citizens of various towns and cities. Arguably the most high-profile visitor was the Dear Leader of New Tinsel; he intended to propose a Tinsel-led worldwide defense force of wolves to fight Flibet.

As the meeting drew on, and the Dear Leader knew that the Guardians were not going to take decisive action against Flibet of Cryaphor, he made his way to the podium, surrounded by a dozen of the strongest, most loyal wolves. Initially, no one dared to get in his way. He made his proposal for a worldwide Wolf Defense Force, but was quickly rejected, mocked, and thrown out of the meeting. The Dear Leader briefly considered ordering the Tinsel Wolves to attack and occupy Spawn so that New Tinsel could deal with Cryaphor on its own, but thought better of it. He instead used his last words at the meeting to pass on a warning. "All those that wish to act, join with New Tinsel in this struggle! All those that wish to do nothing and fall, stay with the Guardians and discuss things!"

The representatives from Paradise Plains, Snowrush, and Nachosquid heeded New Tinsel's warning, and so all left the meeting in protest against the Guardians and their inaction. This quadruple alliance of towns and cities immediately met in Paradise Plains to formulate a plan to stop Flibet. They would become known to history as the Tinsel Coalition.

Eventually the Guardians and citizens of Cryinia, in light of the departure of New Tinsel and Paradise Plains, did agree to a proposal. Althus Corporation, a company that operated the Spawn Market, amongst other businesses, proposed its own plan to defeat Flibet of Cryaphor. Their research department had recently discovered a new technology called "Black Fusion", which they said could be used to create an infinite energy source. Althus proposed to use this energy source as a weapon against Flibet, and as a means of providing for the people of Cryinia. They claimed that the device could be weaponized against Flibet using a design their engineers had newly designed.

Such a weapon system had long been theorized by scientists in Cryinia and even BR3, but the last time such energy had been used before, it went completely out of control, destroyed the entire world, and created the world of Cryinia. This is why the Exodus from BR3 failed. There was nothing left of the old world to bring. However, Althus Corporation insisted that it had the means to control such high levels of energy, should they be given the support of the public and of the Guardians. They insisted that with it, they could destroy Flibet, so the people, already knowing and trusting Althus Corporation for all the good they had done with the Spawn Market, pushed the Guardians to accept their proposal. They accepted reluctantly.

Construction of the Black-Fusion Reactor began immediately; the people provided much of the needed labor, while the Guardians organized a coalition of shop owners and mining companies to provide the capital and supplies. Much of the initial constructed involved creating a huge obsidian sarcophagus, approximately 100 meters tall, 200 meters long, and 150 meters wide. This structure was intended both to protect it from attack and to protect the surrounding environment from any unexpected negative effects. The weapon itself required a complex array of obsidian, diamond, glass, glowstone, and redstone wiring.

Althus Corporation, combined with the support the people and Guardians of Cryinia, was able to build the Black-Fusion Reactor in about two weeks. Twice, Flibet attacked the construction side, once at the end of the first week, and again on the last day of construction. The first attack was very fortunately repelled by the Sengian Army, which just happened to be marching through Spawn on that day. Unfortunately, there was no such army present during the second attack, and so it lasted much longer and was bloodier as a result.

Flibet attacked at the first light of dawn, bringing with him two Ender Dragons, an army of Endermen, Skeletons, Zombie Pigmen, and even a rapid fire TNT cannon carried by a horde of pigs. The ensuing battle was so bloody and so destructive that the Guardians at one point considered sending to the Tinsel Coalition, whom they despised, for military assistance. The Dear Leader, upon hearing such rumors after the battle, merely scoffed and said that he would have overthrown the Guardians should they have allowed him and the wolves into Spawn.

This did not occur, however, as mercenaries hired from the far North arrived at the last possible moment to drive Flibet's army away. Amongst them were a company of engineers, who specialized in weapons of war. They deployed rapid firing arrow dispensers to counter Flibet's massive army. Flibet would not dare attack the Black-Fusion Reactor again.

Flibet returned to his pyramid to meditate and restore his energies. During this time, he was totally immobile and unable to use his senses or abilities. A team of infiltrators who had noticed his arrival discovered this fact upon sneaking into the pyramid. Flibet was judged to be entirely vulnerable, so the infiltrators quietly left and sailed for the Tinsel Military Base only a half hours' sail away.

History of Cryinia, Volume Four: Downfall CONTINUED

The Tinsel Coalition thus started work on their own plan immediately upon receiving the news. Their plan was much simpler; because Flibet was unable to react or notice an infiltration into his pyramid while resting, the Dear Leader proposed simply entering his lair, filling it up with TNT, and blowing it up. Unfortunately, since the pyramid was located so far out at sea, coordinating such a huge delivery of TNT so far beyond the borders of New Tinsel or Paradise Plains would be difficult. Construction of a temporary port to the east of Nachosquid and the Tinsel Military Base would be required.

Once the port was completed, chest after chest of TNT charges were brought into the town of Snowrush, which had plenty of land available for the temporary storage of such a large amount of TNT. From there, they were delivered by rail through Nachosquid, ending up at the newly constructed port. Once the deliveries arrived on the sea, they were shipped out by boats mounted with chests. However, the storage boats' capacities were so small that many dozens of them would be needed to complete the operation in a timely manner.

After about 8 hours, all of the TNT was safely delivered to the tiny island just offshore of Flibet's pyramid island. Infiltrators began moving the TNT with storage minecarts through the secret tunnels to the pyramid they had dug earlier. As cartful after cartful of TNT arrived beneath Flibet's lair, another team of infiltrators began placing it throughout the pyramid's interior. They finished their delicate art within another 2 hours, after which they quietly returned to Nachosquid.

The infiltrators had left behind a redstone timer for the TNT set to 1 hour, which was also booby trapped in several places to prevent sabotage. Flibet awoke about 30 seconds before it was set to explode; he screamed in horror at the sight of thousands of TNT covering every inch of his lair. Flibet knew nothing of the art of Redstone, and so was unable to prevent the detonation. At precisely 11 AM, on July 30th, 2012, the TNT payload inside Flibet's pyramid detonated, immediately destroying it and removing Flibet of Cryaphor from existence forever. The Tinsel Coalition had saved the world of Cryinia from his brief, yet extremely wanton reign of terror and destruction.

Unfortunately, despite Flibet's defeat, troubles yet remained. The Guardians immediately ordered a halt of the planned activation of the Black-Fusion Reactor, still in fear of it. The Althus Corporation refused, however, and instead chose to appeal to the people to keep the project going. The people foolishly accepted the promises of Althus Corporation, protesting wildly to the Guardians to reverse their decision. They relented, and the first activation sequence of the Black-Fusion Reactor occurred at 6:00 PM on July 30th, 2012.

Althus Corporation's evil plan thus immediately became apparent. One hour following the activation, they began harnessing its energy to open a Doorway to a new world; using the array purported to have been a weapon against Flibet. That Doorway immediately began tearing away at the very fabric of reality in Cryinia, much like what had happened to BR3. Althus Corporation announced that it would only allow people to cross if they swore allegiance to its CEO, Althus, who now also declared himself King. He styled the new world 'Althea', as well as calling it his Kingdom.

King Althus announced that anyone who did not cross over would most surely die a painful death, so one by one, the people of Cryinia submitted and bowed down to him in, and were forced to repeat the process to him personally on the other side. The Tinsel Coalition met for one last time in the town of Nachosquid; coming up with a last-ditch, hopeless plan. They took all of the Tinsel Wolves and encased them in magical chests which were placed in the nearby Tinsel Military Base. These magical chests would ensure the survival of the wolves but would be impossible to open from the inside.

Sadly, none of the human members of the Tinsel Coalition survived the energies of the Doorway, and perished within days. King Althus later narrowed the doorway, nullifying the damage it could continue to cause, but making it impossible to travel from Althea to Cryinia without the King noticing. Even now, the Tinsel Wolves of Cryinia lie in wait, eternally ready for the hour of their calling, when they will overthrow the King of Althea and restore true freedom to this world!
