Found this on reddit, thought you guys might be interested. Bugs me that he doesn't mentions any downsides... http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic...-elimination-of-x-ray-and-more-90-supporters/
This guy knows what he's talking about - some extremely interesting ideas in there. I however, disagree with his claim that with that chunk loading mech, xray can be eliminated as the player would still be able to see ore past walls, it just makes it a bit more work. All in all - a great idea. Mojang should seriously look into implementing this (though knowing them, they'd create a couple thousand more bugs after implenting this, then roll out 3 bug fix updates, fixing half of the bugs xP)
Holy crap. If this worked, it would be amazing and I would love it forever and propose marriage to it (or not.) I do agree that it wouldn't completely eliminate x-ray though, but lazier x-rayers would probably give it up.
Actually - none that I can think of at the moment. Heck, this would reduce map sizes, increase loading efficiency, and generally optimize the game's generation code.
How? If that chunk isn't loaded, then how could they see what was in it? Bypass the chunk loading limit? Couldn't that be stopped with serverside limits? Or maybe a temporary world-download that remembers all the chunks you have been in on this server and memorizes them? Still pointless as when you mine, your out in the middle of nowhere and are just going straight so you have to go in that chunk. Yes, you could xray, but could you do it as efficiently as before? No. You would need to go into said loaded chunk and then find what you are looking for. Edit: Yes, I did just change my views mid-paragraph. I do think you can xray, but this will help with the extent to which you can xray.
