Hey! I don't know how many people here play on LAN with friends, but I have an issue with connecting to LAN for some reason. Never had this problem before but I've been researching how to deal with this and found nothing so far.
Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

So you're playing LAN with friends, yes?
They need to be connected to the same WiFi you're on unless you have created a server somehow.

Yeah it's with my sister. It has always worked before and I haven't changed the router at all but after 1.6 came, it no longer works.

Odd, are you both using an updated version of Minecraft?
Are both connected to the same wifi? Sometimes houses can have extensions of wifi and can be different..

Yup both computers are on 1.6.2 and are in the same wifi. Our network has like 3 extensions but I made sure they were on the same.

well, I tried hosting on the mac, didn't work. Then tried on the pc just to test it and that didn't work either. For some reason, when I host the LAN on the mac and exit out of the game, it shows up in my list of multiplayer worlds. It doesn't show up at all on the pc

Dunno if this will help, but one thing I've noticed is when hosting LAN, it doesn't say "hosted on (ipnumbers)" anymore, it gives a port. and the port is always changing.

Nah it isn't. I never had to open it when playing LAN.
Edit: scratch that, I went ahead and opened the port

Been at it for 5 hours. Best stop for now before I literally destroy the world with rage. LAN shouldn't be this difficult.

    I had this same issue.

Test it this way: you host, then check what IP it gave you, then have dettles host and check her IP. If they don't match you have some issues with firewalls or ports. Me and TLW had this same issue. I just gave up and called it a day.

no, mac and pc has no problem with being on same LAN. Its no different than a mac and pc both joining mcs. LAN is essentially a server hosted on a local host and port.

As to why its not working for you PONM i have no idea... have you tried downgrading to see if it works in earlier versions to rule out a problem with versions?

I might also suggest directly connecting both your computers with a cable if you can't get it to work any other way, may not be the way you looking to do it but at least you could play for now :)

This is what I was thinking at first like maybe since the update there was a bug but it makes no sense. After looking for hours on google, it looks like there are many people having problems with it but there are also many people who it works fine for.
