If you are a Mac OS X user, like myself, and have an issue with at least one or all of the following, follow the steps in order to fix. (Easiest fix I've ever needed to do.) The problems occur because Macs have a higher resolution and Minecraft is, clearly, not exactly high resolution.

-Colored text on signs appear black unless faced at an awkward angle.
-Chests turn black when faced at an awkward angle.
-Left face of punching arm appears black.
    -Any other similar lighting issues.

I initially experienced these problems after installing Optifine. (Don't worry, you won't need to uninstall Optifine.)

    1. Install the modified 'avb.class' file HERE.
    2. Go into Finder > minecraft > bin
    3. Then unjar your 'minecraft.jar' if it is not already. (If your Mac cannot extract the .jar file, download 'The Unarchiver' from the App Store.)
    4. Delete your old 'minecraft.jar' and rename the newly created 'minecraft' folder, 'minecraft.jar'. (Do not rename your actual minecraft folder!)
    5. Go to your 'Downloads' folder (Or where ever you keep your downloads) and drag the 'avb.class' file into your 'minecraft.jar' folder.
    6. Open up 'Minecraft' and enjoy! :D
