Alright all of you Minecraft fans! TellTale Games has released their newest video game: Minecraft: Story Mode! Minecraft: Story Mode is an episodic interactive comedy-drama point-and-clickgraphic adventure video game similar to Telltale's other games, released as a number of episodes. The player will collect items, solve puzzles, and talk to non-player characters though conversation trees to learn about the story and determine what to do next. Like other Telltale Games, decisions that the player makes will impact events in the current and later episodes. However, unlike Telltale's previous games that tend to carry more mature or emotional overtones including the death of major characters,Minecraft: Story Mode is aimed as a family-friendly title, so the decisions will still be pivotal and emotional but will not involve mature imagery or themes. Elements of crafting and building, central to Minecraft, will be included in the gameplay, following a similar approach. The game will feature combat and other action sequences, carried out through both quick time events similar to Telltale's other episodic games, and more arcade-like controls, such as steering around debris on a road. Here's a gameplay of part of the first episode: By the looks of it; what do you think of Minecraft: Story Mode?
I understand the negative feedback and criticism this game has been given and I do feel like that could have been corrected easily like their emotions, they look stupid. They seemed to be lazy on some of it and they deserve the criticism they got on it. But I do think that I will eventually buy the game as its plot seemed decent.
Well it's a Telltale game so I'm sure it's good. It's definitely not for me though. This is focused on a very specific target audience, something that a lot of people calling it shit don't seem to get, although I'm sure it deserves a lot of the criticism. Aside from being intentionally childish, I can't and could never stand that art style. From what I've seen it does look like they've done a job on it though. One has to question the awful title though. Aside from being completely devoid of creativity, it gives a very clear message, whether that's intentional or not. It indicates that Minecraft has never had any kind of story before and that this finally gives it one, something I strongly disagree with. Even if a game doesn't have direct dialogue or cutscenes or even a scripted character to deliver story, there is still a story to be found in the player's actions. Especially in a sandbox game like Minecraft. The world the player modifies and the structures the player builds and the process of doing so is a story in itself, and an extensive one at that. And what about all the fanfictions and all the other community created content in or directly related to Minecraft? Minecraft definitely has a story, and I think it's very unlikely the creators didn't understand that. The title is lazy and you would even be forgiven for being offended by it.
I watched 10 minutes of a gameplay before I eventually cringed so hard I fell out of my chair. To be brutally honest: This game is for kids, and doesn't appeal to me in the slightest.
