Mac - Use quicktime player. It comes automatically on your mac and its free to use. Takes a little know-how then you can record and do whatever. The thing that is hard is editing them with iMovie. This is a complicated program that takes some messing around with. Any questions - just ask me, I can probably answer a lot of them if they are on Mac software.

PC - Never recorded on PC but I know that fraps is good and free I believe. It has a lot of setting/options and has pretty good quality. I had a PC and can still get around quite well, but Mac is my thing now. However, ask if you need, and I can maybe help :)
