Welcome! It's nice to meet you! My name is Eightnine and I'm writing this today in an effort to provide the most comprehensive guide possible to get you from Outsider to Settler so that you can start enjoying this server! Please pay close attention and READ what I've taken the time to type, okay? Great! Lets get started! When you first log on to the server, you will log on as an Outsider. An Outsider is not some kind of punishment or a negative title at all, it simply means that you have not been to this server before (or if you have, you have not completed the application process). Your name will appear as a Grey color in the chat window. You will not be able to place blocks, pick up blocks, mine, create blocks or earn money until you apply. Don't worry, it's not a difficult process at all! Besides, I'll be with you throughout the whole thing! Below is a screenshot of what you will see when you first enter the server. This is the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) building. In this area, there are a number of signs that you will need to READ. It's not bad. Just take a few minutes to read the signs. I promise, they do help! While you are standing in front of this portal, you will have a choice to make. You could go down the new and improved adventure newbie maze or take the old one. I personally like the new one, so this guide will take you through that way. Perhaps later, I will expand it to include the old maze as well. When you are ready, enter the portal. Below is a screenshot of the area you will be in on the other side of the portal. Don't worry, it's not any kind of jail. It's just the entrance to the adventure! There is a sign on either side of the hole. Do you see them? Great! READ them. For your convenience, I have provided the text of the signs. The sign on the left reads: "Hey, Friend! Jump down here to get out." The sign on the right reads: "Monkeys hate water, so they will not jump down." You don't want to be a monkey, do you? Get in that hole! Take a moment to survey the area. Swim around a bit. Nice, right? I thought so, too! The screenshot above is pointing directly at the area that you'll want to swim towards. There are redstone torches above that area to guide you to it. Head over there. I'm right behind you. After a very short walk, we come to our first set of signs! READ the signs. For your convenience and because it is incredibly important to read signs, I've added their text here. The top sign reads: "Rules & How to Apply". It also has an arrow pointing to the right. We will be following that arrow to the right. The bottom sign reads: "If you want to build on this server, you will have to apply." I'm not sure if it is clear yet, but there is no getting around the application process. It is the only way to play on this server. You will not be given an exception. You will not be given OP permissions. If you want to play, please apply. Okay, so we've made the right that the sign in the picture above told us to do and we have now arrived at our next sign. READ that sign. Again and for the rest of this tutorial, the text of the signs will be provided for you. This sign reads: "Rules and how to apply". There is an arrow pointing to the right. We'll follow that. As seen below, we've arrived at our next sign! READ that sign. It says "How to apply". There is an arrow pointing to the left. Directly to the right of that sign, there are three more signs. READ them. The first sign reads: "Rules & FAQ". It has arrows pointing to the left. The second sign reads: "Find your way out to get to the next stage" and the third sign reads: "Reading the rules will help you a lot". {The first sign} {The three signs to the right of the first sign} Okay. Lets further down the tunnel and check out the Rules & FAQ before we apply. We want to make sure that you agree with them so that neither of us (server staff or yourself) are wasting our time, right? Cool. Lets move. So we've arrived at the rules board! Lots of signs here READ them! I've decided to compress these signs down into paragraph format. I'll also be explaining them a little more afterwards. Okay? The signs read: "Rule #1 This is a survival server. Do not use cheat mods. Cheat mods include X-Ray tools, hidden ore finders, fly mods, speed hacks, inventory hacks. Follow the coal ore to get to the next stage." There is an arrow pointing directly to your first coal block. Eightnine, but what does this mean? Listen, it's simple. This server is a vanilla server. If there is something that is going to give you an unfair advantage in the game by allowing you to move faster, mine faster, gain more money or find ores quicker, it's not a legal mod. If you have any questions about if a mod that you have currently installed is a legal mod, you can ask a staff member about it when you post your application. I'll talk more on that in a little bit. This is a fun adventure, right?! I love this little lace. It's very nice down here. I'm not going to post more screenshots of this part. It's all up to you for this. Follow the coal and find your way to the next stage. I'm not abandoning you-- oh no, I'll be waiting for you. See you then! Stage 2: Fight!! There are some signs here! Imagine that, right? READ them. I've provided a closer up shot of the signs. They read as follows: "In the over world, PVP is only allowed in the regions made for PVP. Grief is forbidden. Even if it is only 1 block. Do not Trespass! You will only be allowed to PVP here if both agree. Leave if you are asked to. (clarification: if someone asks you to leave their property, please leave it)" The second set reads: "In the Nether World: The nether is an anarchy zone and anything is allowed. PVP and grief are okay." So those are some super simple rules, right? Common sense, basically. I'm glad you've taken the time to read this. It really shows your dedication to becoming an excellent player on this server. I'm excited to hang out with you! Now, turn around and look at the Nether Portal behind you. Signs! Yea, READ those. The signs read: "This way" and has an arrow pointing toward the portal, "Quiz: If you take a false portal, you will return here."
Begin your test! This is how it works: when you enter this portal, there will be a few portals in the next room. Each portal will have a sign on it. Enter the portal with the sign that has the statement that is TRUE written on it. If you get one wrong, you'll have to start again! Obviously, I'm not going to show you this part. That would be cheating! But as always, I'll see you on the next leg of our journey! Weeeeee! So we've come pretty far! We're almost all done! Hang in there. You've been an awesome soldier so far! There are some signs here for you to READ. "Chat Rules: Doing these things in the chat leads to kick/ban. Spam & Scrolling, abuse or harassment of players or their families, hate speech and other nonspecific douchebaggary." Pretty simple stuff, right? Don't talk like a jerk in public chat. You want to mess with your homeboyoz, do it in the private chat. "Languages: Only English in General chat. We can make another channel for you on request." Dude, seriously, totally understand that other languages exist in the world. Okay, but the rules and (for the most part) the staff are in English. If you can't read the rules, how can you understand them? If you and your Dutch bros want to Dutch it up, ask a staff member to make you a channel, okay? Awesome. "Profanity: Swearing is ok, but do not abuse. Go and find Felfip's Wood Shop. He knows how to go to the "Over World". Look for trees." It's time for another adventure section! Again, I'm not spoiling it. You'll have to work this mission out yourself. I do hope to see you on the other side, though! Sqweee! Finally, we're out! Boy, that was pretty effin' fun, huh? I liked it. Anyway, there are loads of signs in this area. READ them. For cryin' out loud, folks. Read stuff. I swear, you will not die from it. d As always, I've provided a compressed version for you. "Please make sure you know the rules. Breaking the rules results in jail or ban." Listen, have a question about a rule? Worried if something may be against those rules? Ask a staff member. That. Simple. "Do not use client mods to cheat. This includes ore finding, speed hacks, fly hacks, X-RAY tools, inventory hacks, etc.. PVP: The Nether is a PVP/Grief zone. PVP on PVP events are ok. PVP anywhere else is not ok." We've already covered that, right? Right. Cool. "Do not grief. Do not steal. Do not trespass." Got that, too. "Chat rules: Do not spam, advertise, insult others. Swearing is allowed." Fudging fudgers! Teehee. "Do not question the staff in the public chat. Any serious complaints about players and staff belong in the forums. Don't spam the chat with them." The forum link is: www.minecraftserver.com/forums "Only players that apply get to build. www.tinyurl.com/BeABuilder Go to the link to see how to apply." That's it, folks! We're done here. You can explore this area more, or go right to the exit and have a look around the server! That was fun! Thanks for joining me for that part. Oh? I'm forgetting something? Oh! That's right! We've got to get that Settler rank so that we can build! Phew. Well, lets get started! So the first thing that it mentioned we need to do was to go to www.tinyurl.com/beabuilder so lets gooooooo! This is the page that you should end up on: Step 1: Go to minecraftforum.net and create an account if you don't have one. For the purpose of this tutorial, lets say that you don't have one. In the upper right hand corner of that screen, you will click on create account. On the page that shows up, simply enter the information that it asks for! That's super simple, right? See it in the screenshot above? Upper right. Awesome. Fill that out and submit it. You will receive an activation email to the email address that you provided in that signup process. You need that email because it will have a link in it to finish off the sign up process. Okay? So find it! Give it a minute or two. Have some 'tea'. Great! So, click on that and validate it. Moving on. Oh, if you can't find it, check your spam folder. It may have accidentally fell in there. Open this forum topic: http://tinyurl.com/6v9sfwl If you are not signed in, go to the upper right hand corner of the page and click on sign in. Provide the log in details you created earlier. If you are signed in, scroll down and watch the right hand side of the page for the "Reply to this topic" button. Type your Minecraft IGN (In Game Name) in the available text field. This is also the area that you will want to put any questions that you have for staff. Again, THIS IS THE AREA to put any questions for staff that you may have regarding what is or is not a cheat. Got it? After you click on the Add Reply button, load up Minecraft, log in and join the server. When you get into the server say "Excuse me, could a staff member please check on my application? Thank you." Please wait a minute for a response. They are busy people. It's usually not long before they will get you, though. That is it, my friend! We've just finished an incredible journey to get onto the best server EVER without any trouble at all. Thank you so, so much for taking the time to read this. If you take nothing else from this post, let it be that you need to read and understand the rules as you will be expected to abide by them at all times and that the staff are your friends! They are, in fact, there to serve you! Now, get in there and have a great time! I want you to have an easy time playing and really enjoy yourself, okay? Thanks everyone at MCS for the service that you provide for me and the other players. It is a fantastic server and I'm hoping it stays running for a good long time. If there is anything that you think should be added to this guide, certainly let me know so that I can get it added.
