Minecraft was updated to 1.7.3 the following are from the change log for this update, it was just a bug fix release.
Bug Fixes:
- Corrected a block duplication bug when using pistons.
- Corrected a redstone torch duplication bug when using pistons.
- Corrected a client crash when placing a sign in front of the piston, powering the piston and then removing the block beneath the sign.
- Ice blocks are now pushed without causing water streams breaking everything.
- Booster rails are no longer being powered magically without a power source .
- Pistons connected to the end of a piston transistor via redstone are now properly closed when the power goes out.
- Doors no longer create purple particles.
- Hacking clients can no longer edit texts of placed signs in multiplayer .
- Changed so that paintings pushed by pistons will pop off.
Server News:
We have updated Minecraft Server to the latest version that was released on Friday by Mojang the server is now running version 1.7.3, this update was supposed to correct a number of piston bugs and it appears to have fixed some, but not all. We still experience read timeout errors under certain situations, after investigating the logs it still shows pistons are the cause of the crashes, so steps have been taken again to stop the use of them in game until all issues are resolved and the server is stable with them enabled. Just for players interest I have included part of the crash log below.

Minecraft server 1.7 has now been released, the two new key game play updates are the introduction of the pistons and shears, along with a number of minor tweaks as listed below. The server has now been updated and is currently running the latest version of the Minecraft server 1.7.2 and the current released Bukkit build for 1.7.2, a small number of our games Bukkit plugins are not yet up to date however enough of our key plugins are working without any real issues so the temporary world map has been replaced with our original map, so login and have a play with the new features. New Features:
- Added pistons.
- Fixed clay generation.
- Fire or redstone is now required to trigger TNT.
- Fences can be stacked.
- Added Shears.
- Redstone wire now will connect to a repeater
- Shears can be used to pick up leaf blocks.
- Shears can be used to shear sheep without hurting them.
- Sheep no longer drop wool from being punched, only from being killed when they are unsheared.
- New textures for Cobblestone and Brick blocks.
- Silverfish skin was added.
- When pressing F3 in-game, a value from 0 to 3 will appear to indicate direction.
- The gray textures in the breaking animation have been replaced with opacity.
- Spawn rate of Squids increased.
- Single slabs now use the bottom half of the full block's texture.
- Cobweb now requires shears or a sword to be broken properly, and drops 1 string when destroyed.
- The bed side texture has been moved in the texture pack file, as well as the cake texture.
Bug Fixes:
- Crashed worlds now work again.
- Disappearing piston fixes.
- Piston machine that duplicates blocks is now fixed.
- Pistons that caused crashing for multiplayer servers fixed.
- Fixed piston bug.
- Fixed right clicking on a sheep empty-handed causing game to crash.
- Worlds that crashed are now loadable again.
After many months without a detailed server map, we are pleased to announce the live testing of our new plugin for Minecraft Server 'Dynamic Map', local load testing of this Bukkit plugin has proved very efficient in terms of additional server resource overhead requirements. As we have spare physical raw CPU horsepower and 24GB of memory the server should not suffer any in game performance issues once the whole map has been rendered to disk.
The fifth day after their chaotic and ill-conceived assault upon the old monastery, they came again. This time they did not chase our shepherds onto the heights, or attack our villages. The undead poured from the waters of the ocean, filling the valleys, an entire army. They hit us the great western gate in a flood of rotting flesh and brittle bones. Through their lines marched creatures shaped like men, but without any semblance of intelligence, as hungry for blood as the rotting zombies, but with limbs capable of swift movement. We held the lines long enough to see our people safely through the west gate and into the walls of the castle.
Our commanders called a retreat, and we made the evil pay for every step up the long ramp. Corpses, no longer filled with unnatural life, fell like chaff, but there were always more behind, pressing us. We rained stones and arrows upon them from the great wings of the fortress until the stink of their piled bodies threatened to leave us all gasping and wretched. We thought ourselves safe from their advance within our walls, while even the lobbed stones of the giants could not faze our fortifications.

TeamMojang have released a video of pistons, that will also be in the new 'Adventure' update for Minecraft which is expected to drop anytime now. Piston and redstone circuit mayhem is upon us!
So without delay have a look at Minecraft beta 1.7 new big addition of pistons, this was originally a community mod that Mojang have added to the game. The demonstration in the video is of the piston block in Minecraft beta 1.7. The features of this block is mostly complete, but sound effects are missing.
Day 1:
My wife left, I lost my my job. The house is falling apart and even the dog ran away sometime last week. I'm tired of this modern world and all of it's traps and pitfalls. I am not brave enough for suicide and I am just strong enough to walk away. Just yesterday I spent my last bit of money on some camping equipment and a trail ticket to the middle of nowhere. I plan to mine for diamonds and gold, live off the land, and only see people when I need to trade for food or goods.
Day 4:
I chopped down a few trees and build a simple cabin that I can call home for now. It's located out in Mystery Valley which seems to be about as far away from everyone as you can get. There are beautiful mountains everywhere and more trees than I could ever need. This place is my new paradise. I will thrive here.
Day 5:
I work up early and went outside only to be greeted by some ugly green mutherfucker who exploded and took out over half of what I spent the last four days building. Why me?
Day 10:
I guess those green creepy bastards are more suicidal than me, but I've managed to stay ahead of them, out run them or trick them into falling off of cliffs. I spent a day recovering when one of them got too close and it broke four of my ribs.
Day 12:
I've been pretty successful at finding iron, which is nice because I need it to build more tools. But I'm here to find gold and diamonds not be a stupid iron-farmer. But hey I guess it is better than nothing. Some skinny bastard shot an arrow at my head today too. What the hell?
Day 13:
I spent most of he day mining coal. COAL! Gah!
Day 17:
I found some great streams to clean the coal dust off so I don't look like a lunatic when I'm in town, Spawn as they call it, selling my wares. These streams move pretty fast, good thing I'm an excellent swimmer.
Day 30:
I spend most of my time underground now. Moved my bed down here because it was easier than climbing...
The latest Minecraft client update is now available for download. This update is a much needed bug fix release, correcting many issues present in the recent v1.6 series of releases, it also includes some game play changes.
* Added a new use for bonemeal.
* Changed the material of glowstone from “glass” to “stone”. This means you need a pickaxe to get resources from it.
* Made glowstone drop more loot.
* Made the recipe sizes for creating cloth blocks and glowstone blocks smaller (2x2 instead of 3x3).
* Re-introduced unlimited FPS, renamed the option again.
* Fixed beds not working very well at all in SMP.
* Fixed destroying a boat spawning the player too low, causing them to sometimes fall through the ground.
* Boats float up to the surface quicker.
* Boats falling down into water lose their vertical momentum very fast.
* Removed Herobrine.
Hey guys, just a short update on the current look of things. Minecraft Server has been updated to version 1.6.5, but we are on a temporary map until Notch fixes more bugs and until a RECOMMENDED Bukkit Build is out. Currently, something in Notch's coding or the server files is causing the server to be highly unstable, so just hang tight and enjoy the weekend while everything gets sorted out =) We will be back to our regularly scheduled programming in no time!
